Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell Visits with the 2011 Seventh Congressional District Art Competition Winner Rashia Martin in Washington, DC

 

Washington, DC— Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) visited with Rashia Martin, the winner of this year’s Seventh Congressional District Art Competition. Martin was visiting Washington, DC to attend the annual Congressional Art Competition Reception in the U.S. Capitol and to meet with Congresswoman Sewell, her Member of Congress.

“Rashia is a very talented young woman,” said Rep. Sewell (D-AL). “I am proud to call her a constituent and I am sure that we will see more great things from her in the future.”

“It is very exciting to get to visit Washington and meet Congresswoman Sewell and the other winners of the competition,” said Martin. “Everyone has been great and I have had a really good time.”

Martin graduated from Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama this year. As the first place winner, Martin received two round-trip tickets to Washington, DC to attend the National Congressional Art Competition Reception, and is eligible for a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. Her winning piece, “Carnival,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
