Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement applauding Mercedes-Benz as it celebrates the production launch of the redesigned 2015 C-Class at its Tuscaloosa County plant. This 2 billion dollar investment into Alabama’s economy will create 1,000 new jobs in Central and West Alabama.

“I applaud Mercedes-Benz for continuing its commitment to creating jobs and economic opportunity in Tuscaloosa County with the production of the new C-Class Sedan,” said Rep. Sewell. “For more than 20 years, Mercedes-Benz has maintained a vibrant presence in Vance and I am proud that the company has given Alabama’s workforce yet another vote of confidence. It is clear that Alabama’s thriving workforce can compete with any in the world. The 1,000 jobs that will be added to Mercedes-Benz’s workforce will deliver real economic opportunities for families in Tuscaloosa County and surrounding counties. This growth highlights the overwhelming importance of the automobile manufacturing industry in Alabama.”

“In order to expand opportunity and grow our economy, it is imperative that businesses like Mercedes-Benz make these strategic investments and create jobs in Alabama,” continued Rep. Sewell. “Our state has come too far to not capitalize and expand upon our relationships with Mercedes-Benz, other auto manufacturers and suppliers. As a Member of Congress, I will continue to promote policies that help our businesses and workers succeed and prosper in this global economy.”
