Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) voted for additional measures to hold Putin accountable for his unprovoked and bloody war in Ukraine and further isolate Russia from the world. A bill to suspend normal trade relations with Russia passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 420 to 3. A measure to ban the importation of Russian oil passed by a vote of 413 to 9. Having passed the Senate unanimously, both of these bills will now make their way to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

“As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I worked closely with my colleagues on these two measures which would hold Russia accountable for its unprovoked war in Ukraine and leave it weakened economically, militarily, and diplomatically. I was pleased to see these bills pass with overwhelming support. We must continue to stand with the Ukrainian people as they defend democracy.”
