Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) announced that $76,000 in funding was awarded to the Livingston Fire Department by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) grant program in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.  These funds, awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program will be used to improve the Livingston Fire Department’s ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards.

“Across the State of Alabama and this nation, our community firefighters continue to put their lives on the line for our citizens,” said Rep. Sewell.  “These funds are critical to ensuring that rural fire departments like Livingston have the resources and equipment they need to keep our communities safe.”

“I want to thank Congresswoman Sewell for her continued support of rural fire departments,” said Terry Peeler, Fire Chief of the Livingston Fire Department.  “This funding is important for our fire department and will allow us to purchase new equipment that helps save lives.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program supports organizations that do not have access to the necessary resources and tools needed to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel as they save our communities.  AFG grants boost the ability of fire departments to respond to fires and fire-related hazards as well as their overall level of preparedness.
