Birmingham, AL – Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) is currently accepting 2020 Military Service Academy nomination applications. 

“The official 2020 nominating process for Military Service Academies is open! Each year I have the great privilege of nominating a select number of applicants to four of the five military service academies. One of my most satisfying duties as a Member of Congress is nominating young people from my district to these historic institutions,” stated Rep. Sewell.

To be considered for an appointment to a military service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law, be legally domiciled within the boundaries of Alabama's 7th Congressional District. Students MUST complete a 2020 Nomination application, which can be found here or on Rep. Sewell's website at Sewell.house.gov. 

Submissions must be received by the Birmingham office by U.S. mail postmarked no later than Friday, November 6, 2020

On Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 4:00pm CST Congresswoman Sewell will host a virtual Military Service Academy Preview Day with representatives from all 5 Service Academies who will provide information and answer questions about each of the military service academies. Students and parents can register via this zoom link for the Military Service Academy Preview Day.

Nominating interviews for students will be conducted on Saturday, November 21, 2020 via Zoom. For more information on Military Service Academy Nominations for 2020 please visit Rep. Sewell's website at Sewell.house.gov.

Background on Service Academies

There are five Service Academies: The United States Air Force (USAFA), Naval (USNA), Army at West Point (USMA), Merchant Marine (USMMA), and Coast Guard (USCGA) Academies. Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, to which appointments are made on the basis of their independent application process.
