WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (AL-7) announced that $256,500 was awarded to Butler-Choctaw County Airport Authority to improve the safety of landings.  The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This funding will improve runway safety at the Butler-Choctaw County Airport,” said Rep. Sewell.  “These are the types of funding opportunities that will make travel in and out of the 7th Congressional District safer.”

“This is welcome news from Congresswoman Sewell,” said Hon. D'Wayne May, Choctaw County Probate Judge.  “We are very happy to receive the funding.  The money will be utilized to purchase land to increase the size and enhance the approach portion of our runway.”

According to the project description, the funding will be used to acquire land for approaches to improve approach protection.  Butler-Choctaw County Airport is a general aviation airport associated with Butler, Alabama.
