Washington, D.C. — This morning, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) was officially sworn in for her seventh term as United States Representative for Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. The official swearing-in of the 118th Congress was delayed by over four days following the new Republican majority’s inability to elect a Speaker.

“After four days of chaos, crisis, and confusion under the new House Republican Majority, I’m proud to be officially sworn in as Representative for Alabama’s 7th Congressional District in the 118th Congress and ready to get to work!” said Rep. Sewell. “House Democrats are united behind an agenda that will put people over politics and build on our historic progress. I thank the people of Alabama’s 7^th Congressional District for the honor of representing them and will continue fighting for lower prices, safer communities, and better opportunities for Alabamians and Americans everywhere.”

Rep. Terri A. Sewell (AL-07) is serving her seventh term representing Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. She is one of the first women elected to Congress from Alabama in her own right and the first Black woman to serve in Alabama’s Congressional Delegation. Rep. Sewell sits on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, bringing her more than 15 years of experience as a securities and public finance attorney. In the 118th Congress, she will serve as a Chief Deputy Whip and a member of the prestigious Steering and Policy Committee of the Democratic Caucus. Sewell is also a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, and serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus.
