Press Releases

Today, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell released the following statement on the heavy storms and tornadoes that affected the Southwest Birmingham area on Christmas Day.

“My heart is with those impacted by the tornado that swept across parts of Southwest Birmingham on Christmas Day. We have been through similar tragedies together, and we know what is possible when communities come together in times of need.

“I have been in touch with local officials throughout the affected area, and my staff is working with local and state officials to help assess the extent of the damage and to assist with any recovery efforts. I am especially thankful for the work that Hopewell Baptist Church, Pastor E. E. Rodgers, Commissioner Sandra Little Brown and countless others have done to provide immediate assistance to those in need.

"My office and I are in contact with the Governor's office and the State EMA to monitor the situation. We are working  with local, state, and federal officials to bring assistance to those affected."
