Today Congresswoman Terri Sewell joined National Parks Service Director Jonathan Jarvis for a ceremony at Zion Methodist Church to announce that the City of Marion, Alabama has been added to the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail.

The death of Jimmie Lee Jackson was among the catalysts for the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965.

"It was in honor of Jimmie Lee Jackson that ordinary men and women who were tired of injustice gathered in my hometown of Selma to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge for equality. It was in honor of Jimmie Lee Jackson, who was also a devoted activist and church deacon that we marched to a new America and signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into law. And it is in honor of Jimmie Lee Jackson that we celebrate this exciting new chapter in the history of Marion, Alabama." Rep. Sewell said.
