Birmingham, A –Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) was named the 2015 Woman of the Year by the Metro Birmingham Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Rep. Sewell accepted the award at the NAACP’s 15th annual Salute to Wonderful Outstanding Women (WOW) awards ceremony on Sunday, April 26th. Each year, the WOW awards highlight the leadership, accomplishments, and outstanding service contributions of women in Metropolitan Birmingham. 

“I am deeply honored to receive this award during this commemorative, 15th anniversary of the Salute to Wonderful Outstanding Women. The NAACP has long been at the forefront of the struggle for equality, and as a benefactor of the sacrifices of the courageous foot soldiers of the voting rights movement I am committed to ensuring that we never forget their contributions to this nation. I’d like to thank the NAACP for this honor and I commend them for continuing the legacy of leading the fight for equality and justice for all.” Rep. Sewell said.
