Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Terri Sewell released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day:

“This Memorial Day, our nation will join as one to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our freedom. We should never take for granted the opportunities and liberties we enjoy as Americans due to their sacrifice. Our freedom was made possible by the heroism of those who served in our armed forces.

“As we honor those who lost their lives, we must also be thankful for the valor shown by those who currently serve in uniform. Supporting our veterans and their families is one of our nation’s most fundamental responsibilities. Not one of our heroes should return home only to struggle to find a job or receive quality healthcare. The sacrifice these men and women have made for us requires us to do no less.

“Let us never forget the men and women who so bravely fought for our freedom. Their legacy will live on in our hearts and memories.”
